SERVING OUR RESIDENTS

SAFE & BRIGHT HOME DIY+ @ SOUTH WEST

A collaboration with ITE College West resulted in a project to install basic household fixtures in the homes of vulnerable families, including those living in Block 813A.

Vulnerable families in the precinct were encouraged to sign up for the programme through posters around the neighbourhood. ITE College West students visited the homes of the 22 families who registered to install items such as taps, energy-saving light bulbs, grab bars, wireless doorbells and shower hoses.

OPENING OF MENDAKI @CHOA CHU KANG

MENDAKI’s 7th Satellite Centre officially opened its doors on 23rd September 2018 at Block 813A Choa Chu Kang Avenue 7. Working with a diverse group of stakeholders, like schools and government agencies, MENDAKI provides early assistance to those in the Malay/Muslim population who are in need. The centre offers highly-subsidised developmental  programmes  to  help  them.

SHINING STAR READS BY BLESS

Shining Star Reads is a community-based reading programme by non-profit organisation Bringing Love to Every Single Soul (BLESS). Initiated by a group of passionate university students, the programme aims to help children (ages four to nine) from low-income families to improve literacy skills. Each weekly reading session is structured as such:
a) Reading for understanding
b) Reading for fluency
c) Word learning
d) Completion of learning sheets
e) Mobile library

Besides helping the children with reading, volunteers also conduct interactive games and activities to engage them.

DOT CONFIDENCE CURRICULUM TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR WOMEN

We worked with Daughters of Tomorrow (DOT) to organise a 9-week training programme for women from low-income families. Aimed at helping vulnerable women find gainful employment and increasing their self-confidence, the programme taught participants essential skills such as resume writing and interview techniques. Participants found the programme useful in preparing them for the workforce. Organisers are planning to conduct a second run of the programme so do look out for it!

MONTHLY BREAKFAST, MONTHLY BONDING

Every month residents and I get together to enjoy a hearty breakfast. I always have a good time speaking to and getting to know residents better. Residents get to mingle with their neighbours and make new friends. Do come by and join us for our next breakfast gathering!

IMPROVING YOUR ESTATE

$500K SHELTERED LINKWAY PROJECT: ENHANCING CONVENIENCE

New sheltered linkways have been constructed between Block 810’s multi-storey car park and Block 810B, as well as between Blocks 808C and 810A at Choa Chu Kang Avenue 7. We have also constructed additional high and low sheltered linkways throughout the neighbourhood so that residents can make their way around the neighbourhood comfortably, rain or shine.

NEW AMENITIES

A slew of new amenities are coming your way! Residents can look forward to new barbeque pits, a community garden, dual bicycle racks and a jogging track. To tap into renewable energy, we will be installing solar panels on the rooftops of residential blocks. We will also be constructing a drop-off porch at Block 811B so that residents have a designated spot to pick up and drop off their family and friends. Look out for these exciting new changes!

NEW CHILDCARE CENTRES

To cater to the needs of working parents with young children, three new childcare centres have been introduced. They are located at Blocks 807C, 808A and 808B. Parents can have a peace of mind knowing that their children are well taken care of at these facilities.

NEW SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTRE AT BLOCK 809A

A new Senior Activity Centre was introduced at Block 809A. The centre organises elderlyfriendly activities. Seniors can head down and join their karaoke, arts & craft and exercise sessions.

LAUNCH OF ROUTE FOR BUS SERVICE 991

To enhance connectivity for the residents of Keat Hong Axis-Colours, a new route for Bus Service 991 was launched last year. The bus now travels between Bukit Batok and Choa Chu Kang Bus Interchanges, passing through Brickland Road and Keat Hong Link. Residents have easy access to key landmarks like Bukit Gombak MRT Station and Bukit Gombak Neighbourhood Centre.

INTRODUCTION OF ADDITIONAL DOUBLE-DECKED BUSES

LTA has been expanding the fleet for Bus Service 991 since May to improve waiting times. The fleet now has six double-decked buses in total, up from the initial four. Buses are now more frequent; peak-period waiting times have decreased from 10-12 min to 7-10 min. Residents can board Bus 991 from the bus stop at Block 916B or opposite Block 805D. It operates from 5.30am to 12am daily.

BUS SERVICE 983: MORE DOUBLE-DECKED BUSES

In order to meet the high demand for Bus Service 983 during the morning peak period, two single-deck buses have been replaced with double-decked ones. This has significantly increased the number of passengers one bus can hold at a time, therefore shortening waiting time.

CEMENTED FOOTPATH

In order to boost accessibility within our neighbourhood, we introduced cemented footpaths at Blocks 808A, 809A, 812A and 812B. Pathways along the turf area at Block 807C Choa Chu Kang Avenue 1, and between Block 805D and bus stop 30121 were also constructed. Now residents can make their way around the estate with greater ease.
