A NIGHT TO REMEMBER: MERDEKA GENERATION APPRECIATION CEREMONY & CONCERT
It was an unforgettable evening of song and dance! 1,500 Merdeka Generation residents were treated to a free concert on 13th October 2019 at Bukit Gombak Stadium. There was even a special performance by renowned singer, Mr Huang Pin-Yuan (黄品源), who delighted the crowd with hit songs like ‘小薇’ and ‘你怎么舍得我难过’. The seniors had a wonderful time walking down memory lane and singing along. The concert was organised to honour our Merdeka Generation seniors and to thank them for their contributions to Singapore. We hope the attendees enjoyed themselves!
Earlier in the day, seniors got a chance to learn more about the benefits of the Merdeka Generation Package. Eligible seniors also received Merdeka Generation Package welcome folders. The Merdeka Generation Package is meant to honour and thank the Merdeka Generation for their invaluable contributions to Singapore. Benefits include yearly Medisave top-ups of $200 as well as outpatient care subsidies.
A MORE PERSONAL EDUSAVE AWARDS EXPERIENCE
Over the years, we have taken steps to make the Edusave Awards Ceremony more personal for students and their families. Each presentation was limited to about 25 students and their families. Award recipients were also encouraged to show gratitude to their parents for the support and care they have received. This makes the Edusave ceremony more memorable and meaningful for all participants.
This year, we decided to switch things up. Instead of having a ceremony, where award recipients and their families gather in a large venue, I visited the homes of some recipients to personally deliver their awards and congratulate them. It made for a much more personalised experience and I was happy to be able to speak to the students and their families in a more intimate setting. It has been a memorable experience for me and, I hope, for the students and their families as well.
APPRECIATION OF SENIORS HONG BAO APPRECIATION EVENTS
Our annual Hong Bao Appreciation events are meant to show our gratitude to the seniors in our neighbourhood for their contributions to Singapore. Participants also have a great time at these events as they enjoy Lunar New Year festivities and performances.
CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION
A Christmas party was organised for the children of Keat Hong Axis-Colours Estate. Participants had lots of fun playing games, taking part in contests and winning prizes.
PLANTING TREES FOR A GREENER NEIGHBOURHOOD
In the face of increasing concern over climate change, we make the effort to take care of the environment even as we build new urban structures. One way we’ve been doing so is by planting trees around the neighbourhood. The benefits of even planting a single tree should not be underestimated. Besides beautifying the environment, trees help to reduce ambient temperatures, absorb pollutants, intercept particulates and release oxygen. Trees also help manage stormwater to alleviate flooding.
WALKING FOR HEALTH
Residents visit new locations for a walk every month. Some places we’ve explored include Punggol Waterway Park, Sentosa and Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. Be sure to join us when they resume!
BONDING WITH FAMILY, PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT
Residents got to spend a day of fun with their loved ones at our Family Day events last year. Family Day was filled with fun, food and games. Apart from enjoying time with their family members and neighbours, residents also got a chance to learn more about reusing and recycling electronic waste. Some even brought their e-waste down to the event for trade-in and recycling in exchange for vouchers.
IFTAR RAMADAN
Residents of all racial and ethnic backgrounds come together to break fast with their Muslim neighbours at our Community Iftar events. We work with various organisations to contact residents and invite them to break fast together with their friends and neighbours. MENDAKI also generously sponsors goodie bags for the families.
CELEBRATING DEEPAVALI AND PONGAL TOGETHER
Deepavali and Pongal celebrations in Bukit Gombak are colourful and festive. Residents of all races and ages come together in celebration. They enjoy energetic performances and have fun mingling with their neighbours.
