Dear Residents,
Over the years, Bukit Gombak has developed into a lush and beautiful home for many living in this iconic estate. Together, we have grown and stood strong even amid the challenges posed by the pandemic today.
We have come a long way and seen many estate improvements in the last five years. Residents of older flats in Sunshine, Guilin and Hillgrove precincts enjoyed refurbished homes under the Home Improvement Programme (HIP). We have also expanded our sheltered linkway network extensively, adding over 2,000 metres of sheltered linkways
around the neighbourhood. Residents also have new spaces and facilities to mingle with each other, as well as to learn and hone new skills. Hillview Community Club boasts an eco-friendly design and offers enrichment courses for all ages – from children’s art classes to many SkillsFuture courses. Bukit Gombak Park will also be coming your way this year. Some of its features include a community garden, a café and even a dog run. Be sure to check it out!
Even as we enjoy these new and improved amenities, let us not forget that a home cannot exist without a heart. I am greatly heartened to see how our community has come together in solidarity to fight against Covid-19 and support our care and transport workers. Volunteers from all walks of life, schools, companies and grassroots organisations from Bukit Gombak joined hands to deliver care packs to some 720 healthcare and transport front-line staff working in our estate. Comprising of items such as fruits, curry puffs and handwritten cards from school pupils, the gifts are a symbol of how our society is rallying behind one another. This is how we will overcome Covid-19 – by staying strong and united.
Even as we practise social distancing, my team and I are still making efforts to build closer ties with residents albeit in unconventional ways. Although we were not able to hold the Edusave Awards presentation session this year, we made it a point to send a personal note to the award recipients who received their certificates in the post. Some students managed to receive their certificates personally from me before the circuit breaker started.
As we move into the new decade, my team and I will continue our efforts to enhance the estate, and also unite and strengthen our community. Together, let’s make Bukit Gombak a home and a place we love and are proud of, where every person matters and no one is left behind.
